In 2007, The William Mitchell College of Law Black Law Students Association and Federalist Society Chapter presented Judge Stephen L. Maxwell with the James P. Anderson Trailblazer Award.
The award commemorates the life of James P. Anderson, the first African American graduate of the St. Paul College of Law in 1904.
Like Anderson, Maxwell displayed the leadership, dedication, and personal resolve that made it possible for others to succeed.
